The Western Street 7 is written by Jason Siegel, a senior at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Although it appears regularly in The Rice Thresher student newspaper, its messages are typically for a much broader audience than the university body. Recurrent themes include education, social perspectives, micropolitical action and consumerism.

The biweekly column’s name is derived from the address (Vestergade 7) of the Danish Institute for Study Abroad in Copenhagen, where Jason studied in 2007. It is also appropriate on a deeper level in light of his reflection on and reassessment of Western society that followed. The text “The Western Street 7″ at the top of this website appears in Jason’s handwriting.
